Description

When Dr. Henrietta Mears began her Sunday School ministry in Hollywood, California, in the 1930s, she was facing several challenges. Sixty percent of children at the time were not attending a church of any sort. Fewer than fifteen percent of children who attended Sunday School ever made a decision to follow Jesus. College students were walking away from faith at an unprecedented rate. Church attendance across the United States was experiencing a decline instead of growth.

In response to this crisis, Dr. Mears instituted a set of principles that helped grow the Sunday School program at First Presbyterian Church of Hollywood from 450 to more than 4,000 in just three years.

In Sunday School Changes Everything, you will find her fearless recommendations on how to…

  • Build your church’s Christian education program both numerically and spiritually
  • Use practical methods for training your leaders and teaching students of all stages of life
  • Implement five ingredients of successful ministry: Jesus, the Bible, relationships, a comprehensive plan, and life change
  • Employ 10 standards of a good curriculum that will help you answer the question of what to teach

Is your church ready to reach the next generation for Christ?

Are you passionate to help people of all ages enter the Kingdom of God?

Your church is perfectly suited to carry out the mission that God has given it.

This book will show you how.

Her enthusiasm for the Lord Jesus Christ was contagious.
Billy Graham

Sunday School is here to stay because it still works. It is “big business” because it remains centered on God’s business.
Jack Eggar, Former President and CEO of AWANA

This is a great tool to help revitalize the Sunday School movement and bring solid biblical teaching back into the local church.
Elmer Towns, Co-founder, Liberty University

One of my favorite quotes comes from Henrietta Mears: “There is no magic in small plans. When I consider my ministry, I think of the world. Anything less than that would not be worthy of Christ nor of His will for my life.”

Somewhere in the midst of the conversation, confusion, and debate, the value of Sunday School has been lost. Do you realize that a person in a Sunday School class is five times more likely to be assimilated and discipled in a church than a person who attends worship only? Did you know that Sunday School increases biblical literacy and encourages personal Bible study? Are you aware that churches with the healthiest Sunday School organizations are likely the healthiest churches evangelistically?

The evidence of the efficacy of Sunday School is clear if not overwhelming. Yet for many church leaders, it’s not edgy or cool. And it therefore is devalued and minimized.

Henrietta Mears will bring back our passion for Sunday School. Though she has been with the Lord for a half a century, her words are fresh and powerful. Read this book and be inspired. Read this book and be educated. Read this book and be challenged. Read this book, implement the principles, and see how Sunday School can truly change the world.
